John Shanklin

John Shanklin is the department chair for biology at Brookhaven National Laboratory. John focuses on discovering the incomplete process of lipid modification, combining knowledge of the regulation of oil accumulation to optimize the yield of desired feedstocks. He earned his bachelor's degree from University of Lancaster and master's degree from the University of Wisconsin. John then went on to earn his doctorate in biochemistry from Wisconsin. His work is published in many peer-reviewed journals, including Subcellular Biology, Biological Chemistry and Physical Biosciences. He also was named "Inventor of the Year" by Battelle in 2017 and was elected a fellow of the American Association for Advancement of Science in 2008.
